Dumb, Tough, Heroic is the fifth episode of A League of My Own.
Plot[]
Watching the crime scene of Diamondhead's battle with the Justice League from earlier, a cloaked Kalibak, a New God from the planet Apokolips, activates a Mother Box to contact Granny Goodness, another New God and the lieutenant of his deceased father Darkseid. Having heard rumors of the Omnitrix from Granny's torture of a bounty hunter, Kalibak's findings confirm the power the Omnitrix holds to be true for both New Gods. With the Resurrection Engine rejecting the power of Mother Boxes, Granny orders Kalibak to retrieve the Omnitrix, viewing it as the key to Darkseid's resurrection. Kalibak acknowledges her request and ends communication with her to begin his pursuit.
Meanwhile, at Lake Rouleau, Ben and Wonder Woman have officially begun the training session, and are now about to close it off by sparring with oars. Ben is forbidden to transform, even if it makes the sparring easier, because Wonder Woman is hoping to instill in him the idea of being adept just as himself without being reliant on the Omnitrix. While Ben is improving, he is frequently splashed into the water by Wonder Woman throughout the sparring session.
While the training goes on, Gwen, Max, and Flash watch from a picnic table. Flash is uncertain whether Ben is brave, crazy, or stupid to train with Wonder Woman, to which Gwen responds that he is all three of those things. While Gwen looks to Max to ask if he is concerned about this, and Flash comments that Max can intervene if he believes Wonder Woman is going too far, Max instead states he is not worried about the training. He is instead worried about Ben's drive to be like the Justice League, and believes he'll try to recklessly take on enemies more dangerous than the low stakes opponents he's fought before, like Dr. Animo, the Krakken, Kevin, and alien robots, even if it means Ben ends up dying in the process. Listening to all of that, Flash responds humorously by asking about the Krakken.

Trivia[]
- Darkseid being dead is a reference to the events of the Justice League two-part episode "Twilight", in which he and Brainiac perish in an explosion during a conflict with the Justice League.
- Max briefly references several opponents that Ben fought previously while watching his training with Wonder Woman, each referring to events in earlier episodes of Ben 10 (2005). These include Ben's encounter with Dr. Animo in "Washington B.C.", the Krakken in "The Krakken", Kevin in "Kevin 11", and "bug-eyed alien robots" in "And Then There Were 10", which go unnamed due to the Tennysons not knowing Vilgax made them yet.
- Lake Rouleau is named after Duncan Rouleau, one of the four members of Man of Action Studios, the creators of Ben 10.
